Dirt cupcakes
When the "dirt" is crumbled cookies, these fun cupcakes will make you the hit of the Halloween party. Sounds strange? Actually, turning something delicious into something slightly creepy is pretty fun. As a bonus, this dirty-decorative cupcake recipe is quick and easy.
To make a batch of dirt cupcakes of your very own, you'll need:
- 1 box of chocolate cake mix
- Chocolate frosting
- Oreo cookies (or other sandwich cookie/chocolate wafer cookie)
- Gummy worms (and/or other gummy and candy bugs)
Here's what to do:
Prepare cupcakes according to package directions. Let cool.
In the meantime, crush the cookies until they have a "dirt-like" texture. (You can try putting the cookies into a gallon-sized plastic bag, and pushing out the extra air. Put them on the countertop or a cutting board and use a rolling pin to crush them.) Place the crumbs into a wide-mouthed bowl.
Frost cupcakes with chocolate frosting, then dip the freshly-frosted tops into the bowl of "dirt."
Finally, decorate each cupcake with a couple of gummy worms. (You might want to try poking the back of a spoon into the cupcake so you can push one of the worm partway into the "ground.")
